JOSEPH T. MORELAND

Joe Moreland was born in Ottumwa in 1­970. He received a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1992 and a J.D., with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1994. Joe became an associate at our firm in 1997 and a partner in 2000.


In addition to his law practice, Joe has dedicated significant time to the legal community. He is a member of the Johnson County Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association (Annual Meeting Committee), the American Bar Association, the Iowa Association of Trial Lawyers, and the Iowa Defense Counsel Association. Joe is also a Fellow in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers. The Academy is an invitation only organization limited to 250 trial attorneys who have displayed exceptional skills and the highest integrity. He has also been an active participant in the Iowa State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division by serving as President-Elect from 2003 to 2004, as President from 2004 to 2005, and as a member of the Executive Council from 1998 to 2006. Joe was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to serve on the Sixth Judicial District's Judicial Nominating Commission, which nominates candidates for the governor's selection as district court judges. Joe is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and is also a certified mediator.


Outside the legal realm, Joe has been an active member of the Board of the Englert Theater, the Johnson County Compensation Board, and the Board of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Johnson County.
